West Midlands Network Meeting - What Doesn't Kill You Makes You Stronger: Resilience and Optimism

Ian Day, co-author of “Challenging Coaching” describes the greatest challenge he has had to face, discussing resilience, optimism and revealing the importance of lampposts!

In March 2017, Ian suffered a cardiac arrest and despite CPR, his heart stopped for 20 minutes. He was in a coma for 17 days and also suffered brain damage due to oxygen starvation. As he slowly recovered he had to learn to walk, talk, eat and recognise his family all over again.  Ian has now fully recovered and in this session he will share his story exploring resilience and the importance of optimism. Ian’s recovery is a living example of neuroplasticity, demonstrating the incredible abilities of the brain. Discussion and activities will enable coaches to reflect on the impact of Ian’s story on our coaching practice.

Ian Day is an executive coach and leadership development professional. He previously presented ‘Challenging Coaching’ at the EMCC group at Wolverhampton Business School in 2016. This new session promises us an inspirational view of optimism, the ‘hero’s journey’ and will explain the importance of lampposts! Ian will reflect on his personal journey and experience of “what doesn’t kill you, makes you stronger!”

This event will be held in Room MU504/505.
