Kent Network Meeting

Metaphor in Coaching Practice

This workshop will offer practical techniques for harnessing the power of metaphor to enable us to gain new perspectives and insights into our lives and dilemmas.  The word ‘metaphor’ comes from the Greek to carry over or carry across and working with metaphor is a way of carrying knowledge which may be unconscious into our conscious minds so that we can make better-informed decisions. There will also be a chance to look at some of the current literature informing the use of metaphor in reflective writing and coaching practice.

This workshop will be delivered by Victoria Field.
Victoria Field is a writer, researcher and poetry therapist based in Kent. She trained with the International Federation for Biblio-Poetry Therapy and has a long association with Lapidus, the UK’s words for wellbeing organisation. She is co-director with Anne Taylor of two courses at the Professional Writing Academy – Introduction to Therapeutic and Reflective Writing and Running Writing Workshops, which have been completed by almost 200 students from over 30 countries.
Her own books include an acclaimed memoir, Baggage: A Book of Leavings and three collections of poetry. She has also co-edited three books on therapeutic writing for Jessica Kingsley Publishers, including most recently Writing Routes.  Her fiction and poetry have been broadcast on BBC Radio 3 and 4.
