Norfolk Network - Discounts, Drama, Contracting and Choice

A workshop exploring how to recognise and minimise 'unintended' games and develop strategies for maximising positive and productive coaching and mentoring relationships.  Open to all.

However skilled, experienced and positively focused we are as coaches or mentors, we can still experience those 'ouch' moments, when something happens and we feel off balance, deskilled, even invited into blaming, bemoaning or 'bolstering up' behaviours.

Transactional Analysis (TA) offers us a rich source of material to better understand our own and other people's behaviour and discounting and drama triangles  are particularly useful concepts for unpicking some of the trickier situations we may experience.  At the same time the TA concept of contracting offers a framework for building clear, constructive and positive relationships where both coach and client can make informed choices to maximise the benefits of working together.

In this interactive workshop we will:-

  • Identify the difference between 'accounting' and 'discounting' behaviour (in TA terms)
  • Explore what a drama triangle is and how it can undermine relationships
  • Share ideas and strategies for addressing tricky situations
  • Identify the role of clear 'contracting' in clarifying choices
  • Reflect on how we might build on our strengths and avoid potential pitfalls in future
