The Skilled Coachee presented by Dr Paul Stokes

The Skilled Coachee

About this event:
Most coaching theory and practice focuses on the skills that a coach has or needs. As coaching has developed in terms of its popularity and scope, more and more people are becoming skilled coaches. However, until now, there has been little research or understanding of what a skilled coachee looks like and what those skills are. Paul Stokes' PhD research examined the skilled coachee concept and he has developed a framework for understanding those skills and how they might complement those of a coach. These skills include ones that enable the coaching process to proceed in terms of speed and depth but also skills that are used, often unconsciously by coachees to protect themselves from embarrassment or threat. Examples will be given from research data to illustrate the application of these skills. We will discuss the framework and examine the implications for coaches, coachees, coaching trainers and professional bodies.
