Volunteer mentoring with women’s charity Laamiga
EMCC UK are delighted to support Emua Ali and Laamiga, a small, women’s charity based in North London, who are looking for six female career mentors for a project commencing in May 2021.
Laamiga’s aim is to empower women and improve their skills and knowledge to achieve their career goals. They are excited to launch their new mentoring project, Sheba, to support women from black, Asian, minority ethnic, migrant and refugee backgrounds. It is free for participants to enrol on the Sheba programme, and all the mentoring sessions provided will be virtual.
The volunteer mentors will offer 12-15 virtual sessions over the course of the 12-month programme on a pro bono basis. Full induction training will be provided on Monday 24 May 2021 from 18.00-20.00 GMT. The Sheba volunteers will help women take steps towards employment, self-employment, or further training.
At the end of the programme, the mentees will have an improved sense of confidence and wellbeing, and will be better equipped to take the next steps or start their career. In the past some of the volunteer mentors have supported women right through to graduation, which had been a truly meaningful and successful partnership for all involved.
If you would like to know more about Sheba and to join the volunteer mentors, please email Dr Emua Ali (Laamiga Coordinator), or call on 0208 257 7317.
