Hampshire & Dorset Network: Well, what now? - Navigating the tension between compassion and contamination

Guest Speaker Michelle Lucas.

Our current social context is complex – there are multiple topics which are having a global impact and which as human beings we simply cannot ignore….Covid, The Climate crisis, Black Lives Matter, “#Time to”, Women’s safety … to name just a few. Yet what does this mean for the work we do as coaches? What topics are we personally passionate about and to what extent do we…. might we … or indeed should we bring into our coaching conversations? Is it our ethical duty to play an active role in raising awareness? Or are we overstepping the mark and forgetting our promise to be client led? Or perhaps there is a middle ground?

During this interactive session, we will raise the questions of the moment that we already know can “divide the room”….Michelle will offer an exercise from her recent book as a catalyst for the discussion, inviting you to notice what triggers you, and to consider how you manage your passions and/or your apathy in the presence of your client. Come and join the debate we hope you’ll leave with an enlivened sense of the tension between being an ambassador for a worthy cause and our professional intention to work in with our client’s agenda.

A space where people feel both held and stretched in equal measure.

She enjoys working with both independent and internal coaches providing individual, paired and group supervision. She has written 3 books about Coaching Supervision, published by Routledge, the latest being 101 Coaching Supervision Techniques, Approaches, Enquiries and Experiments.
