Duty of care plays a vital role within the ethical framework that guides coaches’ conduct, yet codes fall short in comprehensively addressing its intricate nature. This interactive session aims to explore the systemic angle of duty of care, highlighting its interconnectedness and the considerations coaches navigate to ensure ethical conduct.


Join us for an interactive exploration into the world of coaches’ duty of care in this engaging session as Dr Mayhead unveils insights from her academic research into the systemic nature of duty of care in coaching. Prepare to expand understanding as we discover how coaches’ responsibilities extend beyond traditional boundaries.

During the session, we will delve into the intricate dynamics that coaches navigate, involving not only their clients and their customers, but also the broader system within which their clients operate. Guest Speaker
Dr Benita Mayhead, an accomplished professional with over 30 years’ experience in learning, development and coaching, recently obtained her doctorate in 2022, where she researched duty of care in coaching. Prior to her coaching career, she held senior HR roles at Citigroup and other corporations. As an EMCC Global Master Practitioner, Benita actively contributes to the coaching field. Currently, she serves as an executive coach, coach supervisor, director of North-52, and non-executive board member. She utilises her extensive knowledge and skills to drive positive change and is dedicated to the field of coaching, mentoring and supervision, aiming to inspire and make meaningful impact. 


The Organiser

Sally Waters is a coach who works with people in mid-career to help them figure out their next move (and make it happen). She is a career changer and conducted MSc research into the lived experience of changing career in your 40s for more meaningful work. Her coaching centres wellbeing and is informed by psychology. She is a Co-Lead of the Special Interest Group in Coaching Psychology.
